Confessions of a Retailer

i feel so tempted to tape signs at every single register that says “please, no talking on your cellphone while at the checkout”.

when customers realize that they have the wrong size of a clothing item and after you already scanned it, think that if they just get the one they need in the right size and just swap it out, it will all be okay. actually, NO, it isn’t. first of all, we need to take out the item you don’t want by deleting it from your transaction. then we must scan the item you want to replace it with. unless you’re chill with just doing the said action you thought would be okay with doing and totally screw up our inventory numbers. oh, and did i mention that we will flag YOU as stealing for doing a such action?

i don’t care if you are amazing at getting people to sign up for a kohls charge, and get the most for the entire day. if all you do is stand behind your register waiting for a customer, don’t do anything else, or even help out unless you are told to by a manager then you need to just leave.

I work at a supermarket as a cashier. I’m making more than min wage. I’m doing well aparently. I’m trying to get fired so I can work somewhere that I can show off my fashion taste.
its not much of a confession, but something i think is awesome at the store i work at

our managers are pretty amazing that they let us save the items we want to buy on associate shopping weekends in boxes and lets us mark them with our names on them in our break room. so that when the special shopping weekends come around, we just get all the items in our boxes and purchase them with our additional discount. even the managers keep items in boxes that they want in their offices until the shopping weekend comes around. (i think our district manager doesn’t even notice at all)

to that one customer who needed help in the handbags/purses

when you asked if i can call someone over to assist you, i keep my word to do so. but then as soon as i was going to make that call, 10 people came to registers to be checked out all of a sudden and i was the only one there, and had to call for backup. which then made me unable to make the call. so for you to come back as ask if you needed help, NOT EVEN A MINUTE LATER, you just left and said we took too long. keep in mind that us retail associates can only do so much. we don’t have super powers. so if you can’t be patient, even for at least five minutes, which is unfortunately too much of a daunting task for 99% of customers, then you need to go back to school and learn some. oh, and don’t plan on coming back once you do so.

if you need help, don’t hesitate to ask

we are here to help you in any way possible. but when i say that, it means we just don’t want you to fuck up our perfectly folded and sized table of jeans.

to customers who leave (carts/baskets) of merchandise unattended

keep in mind that we will take it away and put the merchandise back. its a safety hazard to leave your cart of items just sitting in the middle of the isle. we don’t want people running into it. oh, and don’t complain to us when its gone, its your fault for leaving it there in the first place causing such a hazard.

we may be open at 8am sundays

but why the hell are you guys here shopping this early? go to church or go back to sleep.

to the customers who decide to go and check out five minutes before power hour sales ends

you had THIS whole time to go and shop. don’t complain when the lines get too long and you are not able to make that $2-$3 difference. you had all that time to do so. its not our fault that you decided to make your purchase at the last minute. plan your shopping trip better.
